Nomensa Advise on the European Union ICT Strategy
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) hosted an important conference called i2010 in an effort to influence the European community on what governments and business should do to make the EU a more favourable environment for ICT. Nomensa’s head of accessibility, Léonie Watson, was invited to speak about e-inclusion, and how it must be approached from a commercial viewpoint.
The conference, which was held at the Great Cumberland hotel in London, aimed to set a new direction for EU ICT policy for the next five years, treating ICT policy as an important lever for growth, prosperity and job development.
Speaking to an audience of over 100 senior EU government officials and senior representatives from across Europe, The topic of Inclusion focussed on the need to ensure that ICT benefits all citizens and contributes to an improved quality of life.
“There is no single solution to defining inclusion for online communications” said Watson, continuing, “A multi angled approach incorporating clear targets for accessibility standards will ensure a comprehensive model for inclusive online communications.”
Nomensa were in the position to promote accessibility as a major contributing factor in inclusion, and spoke alongside experts such as Anne Bucher, Head of the Lisbon Strategy for the e-Europe commission, Reinhard Posch, the Chief Information Officer Federal Chancellery in Austria and Richard Straub, Director of Learning Solutions at IBM Europe.
The conference closed with a plenary debate about the policies needed in order to ensure that i2010 delivers appropriate and flexible solutions that are able to address the individual circumstances and requirements of individual Member States.
